On Republican & Democratic Divides in the US Congress

Join us for a lecture by Professor Adam Ramey on political polarization in the United States, during which he will explore the different ideologies and key policies contested between Republicans and Democrats in the US Congress, particularly ahead of the 2024 presidential elections. He will also focus on how each party’s positions differ on both domestic and foreign affairs.

The lecture occurs as part of the first volume of Fiker Institute’s Public Lecture Series, “Diplomacy, Power, & Globalization.” It will be open to the public, with registration at the entrance.

About the Lecturer

Adam Ramey is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the Computational Social Science Lab at New York University Abu Dhabi. His research primarily focuses on exploring the impact of legislators’ ideologies and personalities on their behavior. In his 2017 book, More than a Feeling: Personality, Polarization, and the Transformation of the US Congress (University of Chicago Press), he explored how personality traits of elected officials in the US explain a significant amount of polarization and dysfunction in the last few decades. Ramey has appeared as a commentator on CNN, Sky News Arabia, and CNBC.
